Andrene awarded Community Champion Award
Hertfordshire’s faith leaders come together to sign the first Hertfordshire Faith Covenant.
On 16 January 2024, 22 Faith Leaders from Bahai, Christian, Hindu, Islam, Jain, Jewish, Quaker and Sikh faiths and Inter-Faith leaders signed Hertfordshire’s first-ever Faith Covenant.
Faith Covenant is a joint commitment to a shared set of principles that guide engagement between faith communities and public services. It aims to promote open, practical modes of working together and to strengthen community cohesion.

🏏 Get Active, Have Fun, Feel Amazing! Why Cricket is the Perfect Sport for Young Girls
In today’s digital world, it’s more important than ever for young girls to stay active, build confidence, and enjoy the benefits of movement. Regular physical activity helps improve fitness, boosts mental well-being, and develops valuable life skills like teamwork and resilience. That’s why we’re inviting young Asian girls to join our FREE Cricket Taster Session in partnership with Hertfordshire Cricket, The Adda Club, Al bayyinah, 20th St Albans Ansar Scouts and HAWA Multicultural Services
As a family, we are continuing to fundraise for Prostate Cancer and raise awareness in memory of ‘our Cyril’ 💙.
Shortly after he passed away, Dad was awarded a ‘Bronze Plaque’ by the Errol McKellar Foundation for his support and has also been acknowledged by Prostate Cancer U.K.
From today the ‘Bronze Plaque’ will be on display in St Albans Museum (in our Town Hall) with a piece of history, information booklets and an opportunity to donate if you wish to.
The display will be there until April 2022.
‘Dad shared his story to save others’ and as a family will continue with his legacy.
We thank and appreciate St Albans museum for granting us this opportunity.
Dad was born on the Caribbean island of Nevis and settled in St Albans in the early 60’s.
Making Local Healthcare Equal for All
As you may already know, there is very little UK based research that systematically seeks to understand how Black and Asian people use and experience treatment from the NHS. The data that does exist tends to be anecdotal and does not always delve into the reasons ‘why’.
Following our recent work with ethnically diverse communities to better understand vaccine hesitancy, confidence and access, we are launching a new project investigating Black and Asian people’s experiences of using and accessing healthcare locally.
Our new project aims to address some of the gaps in existing research, and in doing so support local plans for improving equality and inclusiveness in health services.
As part of our research, we have launched a new survey: Making Local Healthcare Equal for All which investigates race and ethnic equality in healthcare. You can find the survey and more information here: https://bit.ly/SurveyHwH and we have also attached a flyer.
The benefits of the project for Healthwatch, local communities, and local health services will be:
- A better understanding of the healthcare experiences and perceptions of Black and Asian communities, in order to inform services and commissioning.
- Evidence relating to Black and Asian experiences of healthcare and how this might differ from the general population, to support the improvement of services.
- The opportunity to grow trust, confidence and engagement with Black and Asian communities.
- To help inform the equalities workstream of the Integrated Care System (ICS).
