Dear friends

This year’s FACE Interfaith Event will take place on Wednesday 13 November, during interfaith week.

This is an opportunity to discuss and understand how diverse faiths and communities can come together to promote harmony and understanding. It is through such collective action we can strengthen the bonds within our communities and create a more inclusive environment.

Our evening will begin with speakers Rabbi Adam Zagoria-Moffet from St Albans Masorti Synagogue, Fr Richard Watson the vicar at St Saviour ‘s Church and Akhtar Zaman, President of St Albans Islamic Centre.

Workshops will follow on 5 principles to promote a better interfaith dialogue.

Refreshments will be available throughout the event.

FACE Interfaith Event 2023

Message for the Mayor of St Albans

Ladies and gentlemen,

Welcome to this evening and 10-year celebration of the St Albans Faith and Culture Enterprise, known as FACE.

I’m so happy to join you as we come together to celebrate not only the richness of our various faiths but also the wonderful tapestry of cultures that make up our vibrant community, here in St Albans.

As we kick off this event during Interfaith week, we extend our warmest welcome to people of all faiths and backgrounds, fostering an atmosphere of unity and understanding.

This year holds a special significance for FACE as we celebrate a decade of the organisation.

Over these ten years, FACE has been pivotal in providing a platform for dialogue and exchange between different faith and cultural groups in our district.

I personally take great pride in sharing my own Sicilian heritage, a culture also deeply rooted in the fabric of St Albans. The Sicilian (and wider Italian) community has added its unique flavour to the cultural mix of the city, just as each of your community groups have contributed to our vibrant canvas. What you will see in front of you are the All Ages Together leaflets that explain our mayoral theme this year, which is all about bringing not only communities, faiths and cultures together, but really focussing on the different ages and bringing young and old together to form even more powerful bonds.

As we engage in discussions and share our stories this evening, let’s remember the power that lies in unity. Our differences, far from dividing us, make us stronger and more resilient as a community.

The connections that have been forged over the past decade, and even more so tonight, will continue to strengthen the bonds between us in the years to come.

As we move on and mark this special evening, let’s reaffirm our commitment to fostering a community where every voice is heard, and every culture is celebrated.
